An Open Plan Family Kitchen – Hedge End, Southampton

The Project

Having recently moved into their new Hedge End home Mr & Mrs S had great plans to make their mark by creating a modern family home with the kitchen diner as the social hub.  By carrying out the survey when they first moved in, prior to removal of the wall between the kitchen and diner, we were able to talk through the possibilities, give them ideas and help them visualise how the large space would look and function once the work had been carried out.  Our design had to work around, and incorporate, the element of a structural post from previous building work that was required to remain in place.  With the wall down, the kitchen was also lightened through the installation of bi-fold doors.  

Loving the classic light oak style, our customers chose a shaker style from our own SKD range of doors, with all major appliances integrated with the same door fronts.  The furniture was complimented with white quartz worktops.  The feature central island houses a stunning piece of granite, which Mr & Mrs S chose at the stone merchants paired with an oval oak ‘breakfast bar’ and elegant under-lighting.  Choosing a BORA classic extractor hob for the island, there is no need for a ceiling extractor to disrupt the line of sight through the room.
